Yes, you CAN have a banana split for breakfast! With non-dairy yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, and bananas sliced down the middle—you can skip the calories and receive great nutrition. Depending on your choice of yogurt, you can make it a vegan breakfast banana split, or add fat-free protein with nonfat Greek yogurt.
Even better, this recipe takes five-minutes to make. And, not to mention—looks gorgeous. Just looking at ripe berries, creamy yogurt, and sliced bananas will get your appetite going.
To make this the ultimate gut-healthy breakfast choice, choose non-dairy alternative yogurts and be sure to select one with probiotics.1 If you want dairy yogurt, Greek yogurt is best. It has twice as much protein per serving as regular yogurt.2 You can skip the fat in the yogurt because the ingredients are so tasty, you’ll never miss it.
One of our three banana split fruits is the tiny but mega-nutritious blueberry. You can never get too much of this juicy little heart-healthy, anti-aging treat.3 Next comes a handful of heart-healthy Vitamin-C-packed luscious strawberries. Then comes the natural sweetness, fiber, and potassium from the banana.4
Pro Tip! If you use an ice cream bowl, it makes this recipe way more fun.
Breakfast Banana Split
Serves: 1
Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
2/3 cup dairy free yogurt alternative (dairy-free or Vegan choice) or 2/3 cup nonfat Greek yogurt (high-protein choice)
¼ cup blueberries
½ cup strawberries, sliced
1 ripe banana, sliced in half lengthwise
1/3 cup granola (low-fat whole grain or gluten-free)
Optional:
1 teaspoon honey or agave syrup
1 teaspoon chopped almonds
Instructions
One of the things we love about this recipe is you can vary it so easily to suit your nutrition goals and tastes.
Choose a longer or wider bowl than normal for the “banana split” look. This tastes just as good if you use a cereal bowl—trust us.
Wash the blueberries and drain. Wash the strawberries, hull, and slice.
Spoon the yogurt of your choice into the bowl and top with your choice of granola.
Peel the banana and slice it lengthwise. If you’re using a cereal bowl you’ll want to bend the banana around the edges. This is where the “banana split” dish comes in.
Top with blueberries on the left side and strawberries on the right. Drizzle with honey or agave syrup if you like, and sprinkle with nuts if desired.
This is one “dessert” you can enjoy daily with no guilt whatsoever. You can vary the fruit and granola flavors any way you want. There’s no fruit police looking over your shoulder! We’re calling it a “breakfast banana split” but you can eat it at any meal—and even for dessert! This is a kid-friendly recipe, and even picky eaters who dislike the taste of yogurt cultures might want to give this treat a try.
